    The Newcomer Greets You

Post by Argyle Socks on Wed Mar 26, 2014 3:26 pm

Hello everyone, this is Socks here(or Sid, if any of you prefer first names). I have finally succumbed to this popular fandom, and I'm actually glad that I did.
My friends had been insisting that I watch this series, and within the first few episodes I had found myself hooked. I'm already cultivating role play ideas and characters! So naturally, I came to this forum to play some of these ideas out whilst continuing with the series.

Sadly, I'm not entirely up to date with the series, nor have I read the books. Though I have read Edgar Allen Poe's stories of C. Auguste Dupin, and from what I understand Poe pretty much established the detective genre of literature.

So uhm, yes. I can't wait to makes some friends and start role playing here!

After all that, Sydney, a hi? You make me smile sometimes.

Anyhow, Welcome, and I actually love your choice in literature over all. I was one of my few friends who watched every episode when it first aired, which was easy due to my location in London. So, it's understood your whole thing.

Role play ideas, I see? Care to elaborate? Maybe we could even do a role play? Not at the moment, though. I'm a bit busy and running slow. Names Matt. Matthew David Smith, the second.

I love the man period. Quite fascinating, he is... but that's just my opinion. I'm that note, couldn't agree more.

Thank you! I feel in love with anti-transcendentalist literature after reading some of Nathaniel Hawthorne's work. I'm glad you understand my position, I hope to finish watching all those episodes sometime soon.

It's nice too meet you Matt, and I'd be glad to elaborate some. Seeing as I have yet to get fully acquainted with all the characters, all the role play ideas I have thus far mostly involve characters of my own creation. For example, one of my characters is an avid white collar criminal named Fabian Siquiera. I would imagine that he'd get into trouble with law at a moments notice, whilst aggravating other criminals in London. Perhaps he'd get blamed for a murder that he did or didn't do, and inevitably come across Sherlock and/or John. It's a very generalized and vague idea, but I only came up with it yesterday.

Another idea I had involves a different character named Sage Underwood, and she's a dedicated blogger and computer programmer. She travels quite a lot, and so it wouldn't be out of the question for her to visit London. She usually lives in the place she travels too for a while before going someplace else, and so I think she would get a job fixing/programming computers at Scotland Yard for the duration of her stay. In which, she may stumble across an ongoing or forgotten case file and try ti solve it out herself. This idea's a bit more developed.

It'd be great to role play with you sometime, and I hope the ideas I had sound reasonable.

Sure thing! I would be willing to pursue one of your ideas. For sure. I am a man of many characters from about any fandom. Current obsession is Sherlock and Hannibal.

Ah, that'd be excellent if you would! Which of the two are you most interested in? I personally like the one with Sage.

    Ah, I'm so glad!

So, how shall we go about this then? I'm still relatively knew to role playing on forums, and I'm not sure if we should discuss more before jumping right in.

    Alright then.

As far as possibilities go, I think it'd make more sense if it were an ongoing case she came across. It would make it more likely for her to come across any of the main characters if she doesn't already do so when working around the office of Scotland Yard. I'd imagine she'd be doing some pretty mundane tech stuff like fixing internet connections, projectors, and the like.

Sage isn't really an intellectual/analytical sort of person, and so when she attempts to try and figure out the case on her own she'd mostly be going off the techniques revealed in TV shows and the like to draw conclusions. It may or may not work for her, but that's just what she'd do. She would also take it more as an adventure/experience than a serious thing.

As far as this theoretical case goes, I was thinking that it could be a series of serial murders in which the murderer seems to be doing the killings simply for publicity. Not sure the exact specifics of these murders just yet, but we can work that out together.

What do you think? And which character would you most likely play for this? Do you have any ideas for this, or any criticisms?
