I fear it would be too hard to rp about this if you haven't read the related books, sorry.

Wouldn't it be far more fun to have him and Dirk Gently have an overlapping case?

Oh, wonderful! I hadn't thought about that, which is odd.
    Anyway, It's a brilliant idea.
I suppose you would like to write about it, then?

It's been rather a while since I read the Dirk Gently books, but that sort of an idea does sound hilariously wonderful. Big fan of Adams myself. If we can come up with a good plot for it I think it'd be a right laugh! Smile

    So, in short, yes.

I'm assuming you're be more interested in thrusting Sherlock into that world than in bringing any of the Adams verse into Sherlock's?

Both are fine, but I think I would be pleased to see Sherlock entangled in mad situations.

I think the same client could for some reason ask both Dirk Gently and Sherlock Holmes to investigate some weird case. Both end up in the same place, following their own method.

Brilliant! Like the idea of Sherlock investigating on a strange case involving... a missing cat.

Now, the missing cat has to have something odd attached to it in order for Holmes to be interested. Has there been a sudden increase in missing animals lately? Could there be some strange markers attached to the missing cat to make it apparent that something larger is at work?

Seeing how previous Dirk Gently works have involved something eclectic (i.e. the nod to the Norse gods in Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul) I'm terribly tempted to have something as mundane as a missing cat tie into something as bizarre as the Cthulhu mythos.

    Since we're going weird, well...

We could use the idea of Schrödinger's cat, like in the first book.
Maybe the cat seems to be both alive and dead.

Or indeed, an increase in missing cats could be quite a good idea.

It depends on how quickly you want to increase the 'strange' quotient of the book. Perhaps the missing cats are increasing in number.. and then they manage to find one only to find it to be both alive and dead!

I would be more comfortable writing Sherlock, personally. (I have experience writing Holmes, and none writing Gently.)

Writing a quick starter. I'll link it here as soon as I'm done. Starting off with an OC approaching Dirk with his cat problem.
